A new bike share program has started in San Francisco, and this station of bikes-for-share popped up near the radio station. I couldn't help notice a significant flaw; what happens if there are no available bike slots? I do realize it's day one-and-a-half or something and no one really knows or gets how this works.
I am a walker. That's how I commute to and from the ferry in San Francisco and Sausalito. I can get from 4th and Townsend to the San Francisco Ferry Building in 25 minutes - if I'm running late to get to the ferry and booking it. When I first saw this bike share, I was intrigued because I thought about the times when I'm running a little later to the ferry, to the point I know there's no way I'm going to make it. The bike share would've been great in that situation; but there's no way I'm going to do it now. What if I get to the closest station near the ferry and there's no where to park? AND I don't have any police tape to tie it to a light pole.
