I've never had to commute using BART; it looks like a miserable experience. I've only really taken BART to go do something fun around the Bay. The trains are kind of crappy, huh?
When I lived in San Francisco, paying that San Francisco rent, I relished the few days a year when the traffic getting into the City was horrendous. On those days when it would take people hours to get to their jobs I would say to my fellow SF residents, "The rent seems worth it now, right?" And we would all smile proudly.
Now, with the BART strike, I have that same sort of feeling. All weekend long people were nervously complaining about their pending commute, having to get up early, leave early. They had an anxiety that I couldn't even empathize with, or to be honest, didn't want to empathize with. It was a really nice weekend and I didn't want to ruin it.
I no longer live in San Francisco, but in Sausalito, paying that Saualito rent. I know this may piss people off, but as people from all around the Bay were dealing with the horrendous traffic caused by the strike, I boarded my ferry as I have for the past year, got my coffee, a nice window seat and enjoyed my commute, thinking, "The rent seems worth it now, right?"
