During some sort of police action in Hawthorne, Ca, a bystander videotaping the activity was arrested and his dog was shot by a cop. That incident was caught on video, and that video has since gone viral; it's posted below, but know that it is very disturbing.
When I was 12 years old I got a puppy. One day when he was still a puppy we went out to play in the front yard. Apparently, just before we went out, the mailman had come by and was walking in front of our neighbor's house. My little puppy ran up to the mailman, stopped a good six feet away and starting barking. I was running right behind him saying Sorry, I'll get him; right when I got to my dog the mailman maced his cute little face, and he ran back to the house crying. I screamed at the mailman and all that A-hole said was, "He needs to learn."
Any reasonable person would have recognized that they were in zero danger and I would have gotten the puppy away. In this instance in Hawthorne, it was not a puppy, but large Rottweiler, still, a reasonable person should have recognized that the dog wasn't attacking them and was just concerned for his owner. But I can understand the fear someone may feel when a large dog seems to be pissed at them. They were not arresting a violent criminal, and could have let the guy out of handcuffs to get the dog under control, and then arrest him after. Or, do what that jerk mailman did and maced the animal. That would have worked.
What do you think? Did the cops need to shoot this animal? And again, before you watch this, a big WARNING about the graphic nature in the video.
