People are still chattering about the awkward performance of Miley Cyrus during the VMA awards. I'm not just talking about TMZ, The National Enquirer or other tabloid media sources. I've heard this "story" reported on every news station on both radio and television. Yet, I am NOT one of them. In fact, I absolutely refuse to lower the quality and content of my newscasts to the level of an attention-starved singer intent on shocking the public in order to boost record sales.
For those of us that are allocated a relatively brief time slot to report the news, I wonder what other actual stories are being thrown over by other reporters in order to highlight the sensational shortcomings of an "entertainer?" I use that term loosely, but I'm not here to blast Miley Cyrus, but to pose a simple question. Why? The Syrian government is gassing their people. OUR government is about to fall off another fiscal cliff, when they're not spying on average Americans. Yet, here is Miley Cyrus featured in all her twerking glory taking up valuable news space. I understand sex sells. I also understand the attraction of "water cooler" stories, but still I won't budge. Not one inch. Rub your foam finger all over THAT Miley, I'm not biting.
